Voices of Moderation Urges Youths to Voice Out

By Aliaa binti Baharudin

SUBANG JAYA – Youths should come out and demand for genuine reconciliation in this nation, former United Nations General Assembly president Tan Sri Razali Ismail said at the Voices of Moderation youth campaign.

“If Malaysians can accept diversity, we must also accept diversity of views,” Razali added during the Community We Want session.

The Global Movement of Moderates (GMM) organised the event on 11 Sept to encourage youths to speak out against extremism.

Blogger, columnist and editor of R.AGE Niki Cheong said the country will only progress if youths are willing to listen to people’s views.

Cheong added that a platform is needed for both sides to be heard in order to get respect for diversity.

Chairman of Centre for Public Policy Studies Tan Sri Ramon Navaratnam said youths should speak out against extremists through voting.

Ramon added that youths should know the difference between extremism and freedom of speech.

One should exercise restraint from anything that suggests unfairness and insensitivities as they are considered extremisms, Ramon added.
