Build Strong Relationships with People, says National Operations Manager

By Melissa binti Mazlan

SUBANG JAYA - National operations manager of Dutch Lady Milk Industries Berhad, Bryan Gan said there are no formulas or secrets to success. It all boils down to how well you can connect with people.

Gan said his steady rise up the career ladder was due to his ability to connect with people.

“I was an ordinary kid from 1986 to 1994, but became a vegetable seller at age 8.

"The experience helped me connect with people from a young age,” Gan said at the industry talk held at Taylor’s University on 8 Sept.

Gan dispensed the five pointers he used to get to his position of success. “Seek connection and build relationships. Seek out partners and alliances that are willing to help you. When you fully adapt to your peers, they are fully appreciative

of your efforts,” he added.

“Be a sponge and absorb, absorb, absorb. Absorb knowledge and experience as it will help build your foundation and make it a solid one,” Gan continued.

This brought him to the third item on his list. “Do different things, as the different things you do add value to you and your portfolio,” said Gan who has worked as an emcee, value ambassador, vegetable seller, salesman, and now national operations manager.

Gan also said students should always ask questions. Setting an objectives timeline was his last pointer. “Set your annual, monthly, and daily objectives. These objectives should link to each other,” he said.

He advised students to earn trust, earn respect, and learn from the experience.
