SUBANG JAYA– The Taylor’s University football team is training for the upcoming three-month league organized by kakibola.com and City Youth Academy starting on 20 Sept until 11 Nov.
There are 16 teams from 16 universities competing in this league including both of the Public Institutions of Higher Learning (IPTA) and Private Institutions of Higher Learning (IPTS), at a location to be announced.
Entries are open to all colleges and universities in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor.
“This year we finally got the university bus,” said Amir Nuramin bin Mohamed Amin, 23, former president of the football club. “We have trainings on Saturday and Sunday mornings from 8 to 10am in SS15 and are looking for new players. Sometimes we have to share the field with people who are playing cricket there, as there are no campus fields provided.”
Amir splits the club’s focus of coaching into two sections.
The older members of the team – those who are still on campus – focus more on the technical and conditioning aspects of the training.
The newer recruits need to brush up on the fundamentals as they need to catch up with the first team players. This involves basic training such as groundwork and passing.
“The older players are good as they have the chemistry and potential to win but we need to build up fitness and make a gameplan as we all need to be in sync in how we play.”
