PUTRAJAYA – Head of the e-Learning Academy (eLA) Lim Chee Leong said it is his job as an educator to constantly move with the times and embrace change in order to find new ways to connect with students.
Lim was awarded the respected Anugerah Akademik Negara (AAN) 2013 in the Kategori Anugerah Pengajaran (Kelompok Sains Gunaan) at an award ceremony on 2 Sept this year.
Held at Putrajaya International Convention Centre, the award was presented to him by Y.A.B. Prime Minster Dato’ Seri Najib Tun Razak for his inventive teaching approaches that made Lim the first recipient from a private university.
As one of only eight recipients of Anugerah Akademik Negara 2013, Lim took home a trophy, a certificate and RM50,000 in cash.
“It is a great honour and privilege to receive such a prestigious award from not only the government but from the Prime Minister himself,” Lim expressed.
The government presents the coveted award to individuals in the education industry who are exceedingly successful in their respective areas of teaching.
It emphasises the contributions of academicians in institutions of higher learning who have shown outstanding skills and knowledge in communicating different means of innovative teaching to students.
“This award will serve as added motivation not just for me but for all of us at Taylor’s University to continue our efforts in changing how education is delivered in a more meaningful manner,” he said.
Lim, who entered Taylor’s in 2001, has been spearheading the eLA that has the specific objective to drive and support the use of blended learning here in the university.
The academy aids lecturers by effectively implementing the use of technology to transform the learning experience for students and to enable the learning process to take place in a collaborative, self-directed and personalized manner at all times.
Some of the e-Learning initiatives that have been fronted by Lim include the administration of TiMeS (Taylor’s Integrated Moodle e-Learning System), collaborative classrooms (X-Space), and Project ReWIND: Lecture Capture, which allows students to watch recordings of lectures that enables them to learn at their own pace.
