Spartans leave comfort zone at latest show
By Aliaa binti Baharudin
SUBANG JAYA – Society of Performing Arts at Taylor’s University (SPART) and their Sparties Shorties plays are the only platforms here that allow students to express themselves in a theatrical and liberated way, SPART producer Samuel Aw Wei Sen, 20 said.
Former Taylor’s law student Aw added that the play’s message was openness as there was a lot of swearing involved and he worked with students to be comfortable to swear on stage.
“We helped students get out of their comfort zone for Sparties Shorties,” Aw said.
SPART advisor and School of Communication lecturer Philip Gan said students should be allowed a platform to express themselves and to experiment with various forms of communication, which is what SPART does.
The five short plays showcasing comedy, romance and drama were held for three nights from 10 Sept at LT20.
Ex-Taylorian and SPART director Leanne Chuan, 21, wrote “The Animal Kingdom” play and the others, “Hardboiled”, “Cover”, “Electric Roses” and “Eye To Eye” were chosen from various sources.
Public relations and event management major Sanne Evers, 20, said she liked Eye To Eye and The Animal Kingdom because they were very funny.
“It was better than I expected. The actors and actresses did very good,” added Evers.
